

Varvara Tazelaar (1992, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a dynamic artist whose work encompasses scenography and moving images. She explores themes of boundaries, transformation, energy, and mutualism, skillfully navigating the intersection of analogue and digital techniques through diverse materials and methods.
Currently based in Amsterdam, Tazelaar engages with interdisciplinary artistic communities, contributing to large-scale productions, independent projects, and underground initiatives. Her work resonates with meaning and relevance across various social contexts. In her latest projects, she has developed installations featuring moving images on a range of materials, creating innovative and experimental landscapes.
Tazelaar has collaborated on live visuals and installations with notable artists, including Fuensanta (EP release at Bimhuis 2023, Space is the Place 2022, Bimhuis 2022, NovemberMusic Festival 2022), the Pvssy Akelarre collective (Kanaal40 2023), Mungo Bungo (JazzFest Amsterdam 2022, Tivoli 2023), Al Oadimia Trio (Grasweg Amsterdam 2023), SOMA (Guimaraes Jazz Fest 2023), and Radical Tenderness (The Commons, Muizenberg, Amsterdam 2024).
Besides her collaborative projects, Tazelaar has contributed as a production design for several films, including "Coffee Machine" (2018), "This Wound When It Doesn't Heal Becomes a Stone" (2019), and The Archduke Must Die (2020). Additionally, she has worked as a technician for Boris Acket (Holland Festival 2024). She has also served as a set dresser in the movie "Johan van Land" (Amsterdam 2024). Her work has been exhibited with Proyecto LaFaena at venues such as Museo Hispanoamericano Fernandez Blanco (2016), Art Suits Gallery (2015/2017), Quimera del Arte (2014), FFC Ecuador (2015), and Centro Cultural Borges (2013). Furthermore, she has played a key role in styling, decor, and stage construction for numerous festivals, including Lente Kabinet (2022/2023/2024), Dekmantel (2022/2023), By the Creek (2023/2024), Tropikali (2022/2023),Strafwerk (2022/2024), ZeeZout(2024) and MysteryLand (2022/2023).
